How much RAM for Rust?

A rough guide based on your game. When in doubt, start small: you can change tier whenever you want.

Up to 50 players, no mods16 GB

You can change RAM at any time, without losing your save. Ballpark figures, surveyed in September 2026.

Where your Rust server runs

You pick the country when you create the server. Which countries are available depends on the performance level.

PerformanceAvailable countries
Eco (shared vCPU)🇩🇪 Germany · 🇫🇮 Finland · 🇳🇱 Netherlands · 🇷🇴 Romania
Dedicated CPU (dedicated vCPU)🇩🇪 Germany · 🇫🇷 France · 🇬🇧 United Kingdom · 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 Canada — North America (East — New York, Chicago, Montreal) · 🇵🇱 Poland · 🇮🇹 Italy

TickServ is operated by GONOTECH, a French company. If the provider is out of capacity in the country you picked, the fallback stays on the same continent.

Frequently asked questions

Can my friends join me?

Yes: your server has a stable connection address, the same every session. In Rust, open the console (F1) and type client.connect followed by the address.

Is my server private?

No, and that’s Rust: the game has neither a password nor a whitelist. Your server shows up in the server browser and anyone can join; you stay in control from your console (kick, ban). Worth knowing: a connected player, even a stranger, prevents the automatic stop — the server stays on, and billed, while they play.

What happens at the monthly wipe?

On the first Thursday of every month, Facepunch ships a mandatory update that resets the map of every Rust server, at every host. On the next start, your server updates itself and generates a new map: bases start from scratch. It isn’t a failure, it’s the game’s rhythm.

Is my world kept between sessions?

Yes, until the next wipe: the map and progress are saved before every stop and restored on the next start. Stopped, the server costs nothing.

Can I install plugins?

Yes: turn on “Oxide plugins (uMod)” in the settings, then drop your .cs files into the tickserv/oxide/plugins folder from the file manager. Their settings and data travel with your world. The server then moves to the game’s “Modded” tab.

What about the Rust+ app?

Its port is open: pair your server from the game, in the Rust+ menu. Since the server’s IP address can change between sessions, you may have to pair it again after a restart.
