How much RAM for your game server?

RAM is what keeps your world and your players running without lag. Too little = crashes; too much = you pay for nothing. Here are the rules of thumb, game by game.

Minecraft

  • Vanilla / small group: 4 GB is plenty.
  • Paper + plugins, or a very large world: 8 GB to stay smooth.
  • Large modpack (100+ mods): 16 GB, plus the dedicated CPU tier if you want stable performance.

Tip: a heavy modpack mainly eats RAM and CPU when loading chunks — don't go below 8 GB for a modded server.

Valheim

  • 8 GB suits a co-op game with friends. Valheim is more CPU-sensitive than RAM-sensitive as the map grows.

Palworld

  • 16 GB recommended: Palworld is demanding, especially in multiplayer with lots of Pals and bases. Below that, you risk slowdowns.

Eco or dedicated CPU?

  • Eco (shared vCPU): the best price/performance ratio for most games.
  • Dedicated CPU (dedicated vCPU): guaranteed stable performance — handy for large modpacks or lots of simultaneous players.

You choose the RAM and the performance tier at creation, and the price adjusts by the hour. Not sure? Start on Eco: you can always recreate it bigger if needed.

Create your server and pick the RAM that suits you.
